Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 2552 - ‘Disco Volante’ - beautiful condition - extract of the archives
This Patek Philippe Calatrava, reference 2552, known as the "Disco Volante", comes in yellow gold with a silvered dial, applied faceted gold markers, an Arabic 12, dauphine hands and small seconds at 6 o'clock. It sits on a brown leather strap with a gold-coloured pin buckle, comes with an Extract from the Archives and is offered in beautiful condition.
The 2552 was among Patek Philippe's first self-winding wristwatches, introduced in the 1950s with the automatic calibre 12-600 AT and its gold rotor. Its nickname, Italian for "flying saucer", comes from the wide, flat bezel that frames the dial and gives the round case its disc-like profile. An early automatic Calatrava "Disco Volante" in yellow gold, documented by an Extract from the Patek Philippe archives.
