Rolex Day-Date Ref. 1803 - "Very good" condition - Beautiful rose gold
This is a Rolex Day-Date, reference 1803, in 18K rose gold on an Oyster bracelet, dating from 1969, in superb condition.
Rolex launched the Day-Date in 1956. It was the first wristwatch to show both the day of the week spelled out in full and the date on the dial, and it soon became known as the “President”. The reference 1803 was made from about 1959 into the late 1970s and is the classic vintage Day-Date. It has a 36 mm Oyster case, the signature fluted bezel and an acrylic crystal with the Cyclops lens over the date. The [dial colour] dial carries the day at 12 o’clock and the date at 3 o’clock.
Inside is Rolex’s automatic chronometer calibre [1555 or 1556], a robust in-house movement that has served for decades.
The 1803 was made mostly in yellow gold, so rose gold examples are rare. Rose gold on an Oyster bracelet rather than the usual President bracelet is an especially unusual combination. A true collector’s Day-Date from 1969, in superb condition.
