Cartier Santos Ref. 2960 - "Very good" condition - Fullset - Ghost service dial
This Cartier Santos Carrée, reference 2960, is an automatic with a Cartier “Ghost” service dial. It is offered as a full set in perfect condition.
The Santos has a story few watches can match. Louis Cartier designed it in 1904 for his friend, the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, who wanted to read the time without letting go of his plane’s controls. It is one of the first men’s wristwatches ever made. In 1978 Cartier relaunched the Santos with an integrated bracelet and exposed screws, and the 2960 became the classic automatic version of the 1980s and 1990s. It is the watch Gordon Gekko made famous in Wall Street. The square steel case measures about 29 x 41 mm and has the signature screwed bezel and bracelet. Inside is a self-winding movement with date.
The dial is a Cartier service dial in the grey tone collectors call “Ghost”. Its soft, subdued colour gives the watch a discreet, almost monochrome look and is among the most sought-after dial variants for the 2960. Because it was fitted by Cartier during a service, it is a genuine Cartier part.
Full set, perfect condition: a design icon of the 1980s, with a rare dial and complete with box and papers.
